Yet more strange goings on in the life of a dog in its pack situation!
In the pack situation the alpha male leads by example. When the pack are on the move, he will lead the way. Any small gaps between trees or rocks, he will always go first. This is instinctive and the other dogs in the pack know that this is the way it is.
In the home, a dog vying for a dominant position in the family pack will try to push past you and go through a doorway first. Don’t let him!
If he gets through the door first, he sees that he is now higher in rank to you. Behavioural “problems” will follow as he begins to capitalise on his new status. So aviod any of this and make sure you (and other family members) always go through doors and tight gaps before the dog, so in his eyes you are the boss!
